BIG COMPANIES are small companies that band together, stand together and succeed. Jeff Goforth
Opportunities to be a 'Board
Buddy' we have coined that term as it reflects the position exactly. As a volunteer, you are able to team up in one of the positions which one of the board members currently have and help execute duties thereby learning the position. Once that postion becomes available you are the perfect position to run for that officers seat. Great opportuities exist when vollenteering on the NKBA board, just ask one of the board members.

Making Green Kitchen & Bath Design Work for Everyone
Green Design continues to grow in popularity in the kitchen and bath industry, as well as with residential homeowners and commercial builders. The demand to create eco-friendly and healthy kitchens and baths that don’t sacrifice style or comfort has reached the mainstream and is spreading to all segments of the industry. This program is designed to help fellow professionals understand their options for creating more energy efficient living spaces. What is our responsibility as manufacturers, specifiers and designers to use products that are environmentally responsible and how can we convince the end user that this is an important and cost-efficient decision to make? Join Sara to learn how to work together to find the balance between the dream and the reality of Green Design.

Study Group Sessions
In September, your local chapter will be starting a study group program for industry professionals who are interested in sitting for the exams in March 2010. The study group is based on the 9 volumes of the Professional Resource Library: Residential Construction, Kitchen and Bath Systems, Kitchen and Bath Products, Kitchen and Bath Drawing, Kitchen Planning, Bath Planning, Business Management, Kitchen and Bath Project Management, and Design Principles.
The study group will meet approximately every two weeks for approximately 2 or 3 hours. It is a commitment, and a worthwhile one. Research has shown that the percentage of professionals who pass the NKBA certification exams on the first try is substantially higher among those who participate in a study group.
At each session we will review one of the books in the Professional Resource Library, and we will be arranging a presenter/facilitator with expertise in that area. We also have quizzes and flashcards with practice questions. Where possible we can try to arrange visits to manufacturing facilities or kitchen & bath showrooms.
In order to participate in the study group and prepare for the exams, you will need to have access to the 9-volume Professional Resource Library. Members of a study group are able to obtain the full set for the discounted price of USD$425 rather than the regular USD$499 (plus customs and shipping charges).
As part of the study program, we have also requested a Certification Prep Course for the end of January. In addition to providing additional help in preparing for the exams, the course will also allow you to fulfill the education requirement for certification.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Jolanda Slagmolen-Flores at (403) 255-8234 or casaflores@telus.net to request a registration form. Forms must be returned by August 14, so that we can set the meeting dates and times and book the facilitators.
