SPRING eNEWSLETTER 2010
President’s Letter
As the economy is stabilizing we are moving forward in 2010 with renewed optimism. This refreshing energy will give the industry a rejuvenating sense of creativity and exploration, thriving more than ever to create exceptional and extraordinary kitchens & bathrooms!
I am honored to serve as your chapter president for the coming year, and would like to thank our immediate past president, and current Chapter Rep, Chris Salas for the excellent job she did with the NKBA Prairie Provinces in 2009. We had an impressive year with increased educational opportunities and successful new events! I would also like to thank the NKBA members for their continued support to provide the highest standards in the kitchen and bathroom industry.
The National Kitchen and Bath Association, Prairie Provinces will be bringing you some great events in the upcoming year that we encourage you to attend. With our ever popular annual golf tournament, a new stampede party, Calgary and Edmonton Home Show participation and several educational seminars and courses- it is a great year to get involved!
PLEASE NOTE: We are always looking for assistance in putting these great programs together, so we invite you to contact any one of our chapter executives if you are interested in volunteering! Also, if you are wishing to sponsor one of our activities we would be happy to discuss those opportunities with you. Thanks again to our great executive volunteers and all chapter members who give of their time, talent & sponsorship to progress this great industry.

Carolyn Cheetham – Architectural Technologist, CMKBD. Carolyn is an International Board of Director with the NKBA and sits on the International Council of Designers for the NKBA. Locally, she is the VP of Legislation for the NKBA Prairie Province Chapter. She currently owns and operates Design Works by Cheetham.

Attention NKBA Members
There is an incredible opportunity for NKBA members just around the corner! Your Prairies Chapter Executive and Marketplace Events have struck a partnership that will grow quickly in the years to come. Together, we have secured a 10’ x 20’ booth in the upcoming Home and Garden Show in Edmonton.
The Edmonton Show takes place at the Northlands Edmonton Expo Centre, and runs from March 25 – 28, 2010. The booth will be featured as “Ask a Kitchen Designer and Bath Professional” inviting the public to a complimentary (no charge) 15 minute consultation in the show guide, and associated advertisements.
As NKBA members, you will have the opportunity to volunteer at this event and get gain valuable exposure to in front of the public by sharing your knowledge & expertise, and meet with people looking for ideas and help. Booth time will be allotted in 4 hour increments (aprox.) and is available on a first come - first served basis. You will need to register in advance ( you will have until March 10th to sign up), and have your preferred time confirmed. This is a unique opportunity for you as a designer, to participate in the biggest and best public home exposition shows in Alberta while helping emphasise the importance of hiring NKBA professionals...

| EDITOR'S Note:
Because the focus is on 2010, in the eNews and what the Prairies Chapter is aiming to achieve this year, as the President touched on so eloquently in her opening letter. I would just like to add lets have some FUN with Turquoise, in our kitchen and bath designs this year. The Color of the Year, as selected by the color marketing board! Perhaps some of you remember this color tone from the 70's... its fresher this time around! Why not introduce a bold hit of clear clean Turquoise with the Browns, we so love to use in our Prairies, design stories.
In the next eNews I look forward to showcasing ALL the local Kitchen and Bath contest winners... they were still coming in at publication date—so I was not able to post them on this eNews. If YOU have a winning design and haven't submitted it to me, please do so at your earliest convenience (these will be contest winners of students / professional kitchen and bath designers in the prairie provinces chapter).
